5 GREAT Reasons to walk on a treadmill
While walking is good for you no matter where you do it, there are some added benefits to taking those steps on a treadmill. Rose Colette, General Manager at Spectrum Redondo Beach, says there are five great reasons to come into Spectrum and walk on a treadmill:
- “Walking on a treadmill tends to be a more concentrated, focused exercise than walking down the street. You can set a treadmill at four miles an hour, for example, and know exactly how far you’ve walked when you’re finished. When you walk outside, it’s easy to vary your speed and to slow down without even being aware of it.”
- “Many treadmills provide the user with valuable information such as calories burned, heart rate, and miles walked. This information can be very motivational, especially if you’re working toward a specific goal and are looking to do more each time.”
- “Walking on a treadmill provides greater control and safety. When you come to the club, you know it’s never going to be too cold, too hot, too windy or too dark to walk. You also don’t have to avoid cars, bicyclists, dogs and uneven sidewalks.”
- “When you use a treadmill with a TV monitor and watch your favorite show while you’re walking, you’ll find the time passes much more quickly. Some people even end up walking farther then they planned because they want to finish watching their program!”
- “When you walk in your neighborhood, you typically start and end at home. When you get home, you’re probably done exercising. When a member is finished on the treadmill at one of our clubs and his or her endorphins are pumping, it’s not unusual to see them do some free weights or even join in one of our group fitness classes. They do more—and in the process they see greater results.”
The bottom line, says Rose: “There are definite benefits to walking on the treadmill. But no matter where you choose to walk, keep putting one foot in front of the other—and enjoy it!”
